December post

Right now I am working on 3 pieces. I have to finish my lanterns, put together my combination piece, and make my altered piece on the wheel. With all three projects I am close to being done and just have to put the final touches on it except the altered form.

Week 12

Today I am going to clean up the drips on the spikes and plan out the shape for my next handbuilding project. Yes, I have finished glazing all of my first quarter projects and I am starting to plan out my new ones.

Organic sculpture

I used emphasis and balance in my piece. Emphasis is on the spikes and balance is the use of the spikes on all four the sides. The look of the final piece is really good, I learned how fragile a piece like this and how much extra care it takes to make a piece like this one. I also learned that the larger and more complex the faster you have to work so all of the pieces on the project do not dry out before your finished. Have a set plan before you use any clay.

Teapot

This project requires throwing many pieces and it is interesting to see so many little pieces come together to make a great final piece. I learned that they are harder to make then I originally thought and I took away that even though the pieces might not be perfect seperate but when they are put together they can turn out great.

Glazing

I used Black, Red, and Yellow under glazes and I painted in the parts that I scraped away for the sgraffito.

Sgrafitto

Sgrafitto is the scraping away of paint to uncover the clay underneath.
I like the look of the different paints without having to paint all of the individual lines. I like the natural look that the scraping away gives to the piece.

Identity Sculpture

I believe that my sculpture is a good representation of myself because on my head there are going to be both words and symbols of who I am. If I could do this project differently I would not do a whole head I would probably choose a smaller piece to work with. The easiest part of this project was making the symbols and the hardest part was probably was either putting the head together or sculpting an eye that is to look exactly like mine.

I am so stoked to be back for another awesome year in Ceramics!

This summer I went to Dallas, Texas to see family and also went to Band Camp in August. For a new project we could maybe do a class project where everyone in the class contributes a little piece to a bigger project. My favorite show on ABC right now is Revenge and it is a great show!!! Here is a link for the new season coming soon!

High Heel Teapot

You should take a project off of the wooden board right before it becomes leather hard. During this project I am focusing on the basic shape of a high heel and then when I paint it I am going to add a pattern that will make it look like a more realistic high heel. I learned how you have to experiment with making a shape for a while and that it will not just look the way you want it to and also if you are making two of something that it is hard to make both look exactly alike and it will take a lot of time and work to get them to look the same. Maybe for this project i would try to  better how i made the first so I could make the second the sam way.

February Post

For the two darker blue tiles I used Dark Blue, Golden Rod Shino, and Bright Briarwood. For the two lighter tiles I used Oasis and Seaspray for the Blue, Light Butternut, and Bright Briarwood.

I am finishing my goblets and plates. I just have to put together the goblets and trim one plate. So far I am not having any problems. Both projects have lots to be done but I didnt find either to hard.
